Overview
Rhinoplasty, also known as a "nose job," is a surgical procedure that is performed to reshape or resize the nose. The procedure can be done for cosmetic reasons or to correct functional problems, such as breathing difficulties due to a deviated septum.
During a rhinoplasty procedure, the surgeon makes incisions either inside the nostrils or on the outside of the nose. They then reshape the bone and cartilage of the nose to achieve the desired look or improve functionality. In some cases, additional tissue may be added to the nose, such as cartilage from the ear or rib, to augment the structure.
After the procedure, the nose is usually placed in a splint or cast to help it maintain its new shape while it heals. Recovery time varies depending on the extent of the surgery, but patients can usually return to work and normal activities within a week or two.

Ideal candidate for Rhinoplasty

An ideal candidate for a rhinoplasty (nose job) is someone who is in good health, has realistic expectations and is unhappy with the appearance or function of their nose.
Some common reasons why people seek rhinoplasty include:
Aesthetic concerns: They are unhappy with the shape, size, or symmetry of their nose and want to improve their appearance.
Breathing problems: They have difficulty breathing through their nose due to a deviated septum or other structural issues.
Congenital abnormalities: They were born with a nose that is misshapen or asymmetrical.
Injury or trauma: They have experienced trauma to the nose, resulting in a deformity or functional problems.
It's important to note that rhinoplasty is a highly personalized procedure, and the ideal candidate will have a specific set of goals and concerns that they want to address with surgery.

What should I do Before my Surgery?

The time leading up to your surgery is very important. To get an excellent result from your plastic surgery procedure, there are some checkboxes you'll want to tick leading up to your procedure.
-
Get the lab tests our surgeon instructs, fill out the paperwork we send you, and pay for insurance coverage.
-
STOP SMOKING! WE MEAN IT! By restricting blood vessels, nicotine decreases the blood flow throughout your body. Plastic surgery is extremely delicate, and your blood vessels play a significant role in the results. If they are restricted, the results are compromised.
-
Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding.
-
As you prepare for surgery, the healthier the foods you eat, the better. Eating foods that are full of vitamins and minerals and that are excellent sources of fiber will help you heal more quickly after the surgery. Certain foods are also great at increasing or promoting skin elasticity, which will help your skin bounce back after your procedure.

After Surgery

The first night after surgery, you will notice temporary bruising, swelling, and numbness around the nose and eyes, which can last for several days. The first night is the worst (TRUST US). Pain and discomfort can be managed with pain medication prescribed by the surgeon.
Furthermore, your nose will be packed with gauze or other materials to control bleeding and help maintain the new shape of your nose. Depending on your case, you will also have a splint or cast placed on your nose to help support and protect the new structure.

For the next several weeks you should avoid any strenuous activity to allow for proper healing. Additionally, you will be instructed not to blow your nose and to keep your head elevated at all times.

Overall, the immediate recovery process after a rhinoplasty procedure can be uncomfortable, but with proper care and attention, most patients can return to their normal activities within a few weeks.

The day after your surgery you will continue to experience some discomfort and swelling in the nose and surrounding areas. Our nurses will change your dressings and evaluate your operative sites. After your examination, you will be allowed to return to your suite and rest until your doctor arrives for your first control appointment.

The first week after your surgery, you will have a follow-up appointment with your surgeon to assess the healing progress. Your surgeon may remove any external splints or casts and check the shape and function of the nose.
You may still experience some swelling and bruising, although these symptoms should begin to subside. Your surgeon may also provide instructions on resuming normal activities, such as gentle exercise or light work. It's essential to continue following any postoperative instructions provided by your surgeon, such as avoiding any activities that could put a strain on the nose and maintaining proper hygiene.

The first month after your surgery, if you are still feeling tired, and a bit sore at this point, don´t worry, it will take a few weeks or months to feel completely like yourself again after surgery. At this time, you can expect to see significant improvements in the appearance of your nose. Swelling and bruising will have decreased, although some residual swelling may still be present.
You may also experience some numbness or tingling in the nose and surrounding area, this is normal and usually resolves within a few weeks. It is important to follow all post-operative instructions provided by your surgeon and avoid strenuous activities that could disrupt the healing process.

This period is often called the “roller coaster” time period because you will go through mixed emotions of excitement, frustration, and happiness as you come to grips with your new nose and the overall recovery process. Almost all patients go through this period of discovery, learning, and healing. You must keep looking forward and realize that over the next several months you will begin to enjoy your new nose and its dramatic transformation from surgery.
