Overview

Brow lift surgery, also known as a forehead lift, is a cosmetic procedure that aims to lift and tighten the skin and muscles of the forehead and eyebrows to create a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance.

The procedure involves making incisions either behind the hairline, at the hairline, or in the temporal region and lifting the skin and underlying tissues to remove wrinkles, creases, and sagging skin.

There are several techniques for performing brow lift surgery, including endoscopic, coronal, and temporal approaches. The endoscopic approach involves making several small incisions in the scalp and using a tiny camera to guide the surgeon in lifting the forehead tissues. The coronal approach involves an incision across the scalp from ear to ear and lifting the forehead tissues. The temporal approach involves making an incision at the temple and lifting the outer corner of the eyebrow.

Ideal candidate for Rhinoplasty

The ideal candidate for a brow lift surgery is someone who is in good overall health and has realistic expectations about the outcome of the procedure. The surgery is typically performed on individuals who have sagging or drooping eyebrows and forehead skin caused by the aging process, genetics, or other factors. Some common characteristics of good candidates for a brow lift include:

Age: Typically, candidates for a brow lift surgery are in their 40s, 50s, or older, but the procedure may also be appropriate for younger patients who have inherited sagging skin or who have significant asymmetry in their eyebrows.

Skin elasticity: Candidates should have good skin elasticity to ensure that the skin can be lifted and tightened effectively during the procedure.

Wrinkles and sagging skin: Candidates should have wrinkles and sagging skin in the brow area that can benefit from the procedure.

What should I do Before my Surgery?

The time leading up to your surgery is very important. To get an excellent result from your plastic surgery procedure, there are some checkboxes you'll want to tick leading up to your procedure.

  • Get the lab tests our surgeon instructs, fill out the paperwork we send you, and pay for insurance coverage.

  • STOP SMOKING! WE MEAN IT!  By restricting blood vessels, nicotine decreases the blood flow throughout your body. Plastic surgery is extremely delicate, and your blood vessels play a significant role in the results. If they are restricted, the results are compromised.

  • Avoid taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements as they can increase bleeding.

  • As you prepare for surgery, the healthier the foods you eat, the better. Eating foods that are full of vitamins and minerals and that are excellent sources of fiber will help you heal more quickly after the surgery. Certain foods are also great at increasing or promoting skin elasticity, which will help your skin bounce back after your procedure.

After Surgery

The first night after surgery, you will notice temporary bruising, swelling, tightness, and numbness in the forehead and eye area, which can last for several days. The first night is the worst (TRUST US). Pain and discomfort can be managed with pain medication prescribed by the surgeon.

Your forehead may be wrapped in a bandage or compression garment to reduce swelling and support the healing tissues. Furthermore, your surgeon may place small drainage tubes in the incisions to help remove any excess blood or fluid.

For the next several weeks you should avoid any strenuous activity to allow for proper healing. Overall, the immediate recovery process after a brow lift procedure can be uncomfortable, but with proper care and attention, most patients can return to their normal activities within a few weeks.

The day after your surgery you will continue to experience some discomfort and swelling in the forehead and eye areas. Our nurses will change your dressings, evaluate your operative sites and apply cold compresses to the areas if necessary. After your examination, you will be allowed to return to your suite and rest until your doctor arrives for your first control appointment.

The first week after your surgery, you will have a follow-up appointment with your surgeon to assess the healing progress. During these controls, your surgeon may remove any sutures and staples as needed.  Your surgeon will examine the incisions and check for any signs of infection or other complications. They will then carefully remove the sutures or staples using sterile instruments. This process may cause some minor discomfort or a pulling sensation in the incision area, but it should not be painful. Once the sutures or staples are removed, your surgeon may apply a small amount of antibiotic ointment to the incisions and cover them with a sterile dressing.

After the sutures or staples are removed, you may notice that the incisions look red or slightly raised, but this is normal and should gradually improve over time. Your surgeon will provide you with instructions on how to care for the incisions as they continue to heal. It is important to follow these instructions carefully to minimize the risk of infection and promote optimal healing.

At this time you may still experience some swelling and bruising, although these symptoms should begin to subside. You should continue to avoid strenuous activity and focus on resting.

The first month after your surgery, if you are still feeling tired, and a bit sore at this point, don´t worry, it will take a few weeks or months to feel completely like yourself again after surgery. Swelling and bruising should have significantly subsided, and you should begin to see the final results of your surgery. Your incisions should be well-healed, and any residual redness or raised scars should continue to improve over time. You may still have some mild discomfort or numbness in the forehead and scalp area, but this should gradually improve.

During this time, you can typically resume most of your normal activities, but you should still avoid any strenuous exercise or heavy lifting until your surgeon gives you the green light. You may also still need to avoid certain skincare products or treatments that could irritate or damage the healing tissues.

This period is often called the “roller coaster” time period because you will go through mixed emotions of excitement, frustration, and happiness as you come to grips with your new look and the overall recovery process.  Almost all patients go through this period of discovery, learning, and healing. You must keep looking forward and realize that over the next several months you will begin to enjoy your new look and its dramatic transformation from surgery.
